Sticks and stones may break my bones, but my past does not define me.

High School—one of the worst times in my life. I was “that” girl, the one everyone made fun of. The outcast. Band geek. Nerd. That’s all changed, and so have I. Jane Sharp vanished into thin air years ago; I go by Reese Kennedy now. But Reese isn’t the one invited to the Meadow High School Class of 2005 reunion next month. I am. So I need a plan.

Step one: Hire a fake fiance.
Step two: Attend my reunion and rub my success in their faces.
Step three: Resume my normal life.

Falling for Hunter Drake is not on my agenda.

Rachael Brownell is quickly moving up on my list of favorite authors. After her novel, Chasing Fate and now STICKS & STONES, I cannot wait to see what else she brings into the Indie World. Her novels are so heartfelt, emotional, and downright raw, that it left me flipping pages quicker, staying up later than intended, and almost being late to work - oops!

Reese Kennedy is a well known real estate agent. She has certainly made a name for herself in the business, and prides herself on being an extremely successful woman. Sadness eludes Reese though as she has secrets she has hidden for many years, and all because of her high school experience. With her reunion quickly approaching, she has to come up with a plan to show off her success, and lie a little bit about it, too. While the lie wouldn't hurt anyone, she arranges to hire an escort to pretend to be her fake fiance for the weekend. Only, plans change, and things get so twisted, that secrets that weren't meant to come out, do. In the worse way possible, and at the worse time possible.

Hunter Drake wants nothing more than to quit his job as an escort. That is until he's given an assignment that he simply cannot turn down. The money is good as his for a weekend away from his current stresses. That is until he meets her. Until he gets to know her. And until his secret gets torn from his grasp, and thrown out in the open for all to see, and witness the downfall of Reese Kennedy all over again. He never wanted this to happen like it did. He never wanted to hurt her like she was hurt all those years ago.

STICKS & STONES was an outstanding novel. Hunter Drake, and Reese Kennedy were the main characters that shared a very interesting past, but it isn't brought to light until later in the novel. The other characters all played vital roles in the secrets being exposed, and each of them had their own backstories that interested me enough to hope for their own novels down the road. The story line was great with a lot of angst, emotions, and a lot of moments where it leaves the reader going what the heck?! Definitely recommend!
