The meter is running…

One night as Rose Crawford steps out of a bar, she gives no second thought to lifting her hand to signal for a cab. After all, it’s the responsible thing to do.

A common occurrence.

Far safer than walking several blocks, alone, in the dark.

A familiar-looking yellow taxi with black, faux-leather seats, running meter on the dash, and a smiling driver pulls up to the curb.

Rose slides in. Gives the driver her address…

But she never reaches her destination.

Instead, she finds herself captive, at the will of a man who isn’t a driver, but a bona fide psychopath.

Trapped in a taxi she can’t escape, Rose begins to panic. As the miles between her and safety grow, hope dwindles. It isn’t until someone else joins her in captivity that her spark of hope is rekindled.

Derek is strong, capable, and surely together they can fight their way to freedom.

Then Rose finds out exactly why she’s been driven into hell. Derek may be an unwilling captive, but he isn’t going to help her.

In fact, he’s there to do the exact opposite.

Cambria Hebert does it again! I love Cambria's work, and would have to say this is one of those novels that grabs you from the start, drags you in, and keeps you there until it's finished. A great read, that really keeps the suspense rolling from page one until the end. I don't want to give anything away. After all, this is a romantic suspense, and if I gave anything away it wouldn't be so suspenseful!  While this is a novel that is part of the Take it Off Novel Series it can be read as a standalone, and I will say that it was nice to pick up Taxi and not be lost, or feel behind as far as it being book number eleven in this series.

Rose expects a normal night from her night out with friends. Stumbling out to the curb where she raises her hand to hail a cab is a normal thing for a normal person to do. Definitely more normal than walking home, alone, along a not so busy street, to a dark house. What isn't normal is the events that occur after she slides onto the faux leather seats, gives the cabbie her address, and settles in for the relatively short drive to her house. When the cabbie keeps driving past the inviting street front that leads to her house, dread, panic, and nausea settle deep within her stomach. But, that's not the only thing that seems to be off about the situation....

Rose and Derek's relationship is the most unconventional relationship that I have ever ran across. From the moment Rose realizes who he is, and what he's doing she fears it's too late, and that's what makes this novel so suspenseful. Very twisty, very so many things can go wrong feeling, that will leave the reader feeling as if there is no end to the novel. Will Derek help Rose? Is Derek there for all the wrong reasons? What could Rose be any good for other than her own life?! Pick it up, read it. You won't regret it. I promise.

A definite must read for any romantic suspense novel lovers!
