Eli Davenport thinks he’s found the perfect woman to be his wife. She’s a doctor, like he is. She’s brilliant, like he is. And she’s wealthy, like he is.

Guinevere ‘Gwen’ Poe thinks her fiance is the perfect man. He’s handsome, successful and he was her first…

But when Eli’s bride runs off with Gwen’s fiance on his wedding day, they are left to pick up the broken pieces of each other…

This was such a great novel! Definitely one of my top reads for the beginning of 2016. That Thing Between Eli & Gwen focuses on two separate people who end up having so much more in common than they ever thought they would. When they're both left standing in a church, full of people, empty-handed, they turn to one another in a brief moment before their worlds collided once more in the most unexpected way possible.

There is one thing in life a groom to be or bride to be wants to witness; the moment their significant other runs off with another person, hand in hand, down the aisle. For Eli Davenport, and Guinevere Poe, this happens to them on the day of Eli's wedding. The way they handle their lives from there stops with any similarities. Eli throws himself into his work - a neurosurgeon at the local hospital, and Gwen turns to her art where she throws her hurt and anger into the colors on the canvas. When the couple meet by a chance accident at the hospital Eli works at, fireworks explode - and not in a good way, at first.

This dynamic couple takes a very real life situation, and turns it into something beautiful. From the moment that Eli, and Gwen start running into each other more, to the twist at the end of the novel, I was sure that our leading lady, and gentleman would have absolutely no hiccups in their relationship. It wasn't so, and I think that J.J. McAvoy played this out very well considering the rough start Eli and Gwen had upon first meeting each other.

This is a dual point of view novel, and being such it switched back and forth between the couple a lot. I enjoy these type of novels because I feel it gives the reader more insight to the couple without it being one-sided, or focusing on one character too much. A well written novel with some very well developed characters. A big 5 Bars to J.J. McAvoy on That Thing Between Eli & Gwen!
