Mark Williams is a former Marine who needs a temporary, just for show bodyguard simply to ease his father's mind. He hires Julie Jameson, a beautiful young woman who looks nothing like a bodyguard even though her resume indicates she’s tough as nails.  She's the perfect candidate. but he's got a few demands of his own. First on that list: he can take his own damn bullets.
Julie doesn’t like being told she was hired because of her looks, or that she isn't allowed to do her job. She is not just an overpriced escort with a gun, she’s good at what she does. Except as things heat up and it becomes obvious to both of them that the threat is real, Mark treats her more like part of the team despite his obvious desire to protect her. And he never treats her as an escort, despite the fact that she really starts regretting that particular clause in the contract.
Together they face explosions, flying bullets, injuries and judgement, all the while dealing with a safehouse full of her brothers, multiple government agencies trying to work together, old friends and older secrets.
The only thing either of them is sure about is that if they both survive, they aren’t letting go. All they have to do is make sure that happens.

"Just remember, kiddies that need babysitters often do whatever the hell they want and worry about the punishment later." ~ Julie~

So as you can tell.. the back and forth banter is one of the great points of the story.  The way that Julie and Mark throw little quips back and forth through out the entire book is great.  I love when a book can be completely serious one moment, have you all tied up in knots a split second later, and laughing the very next instant.  This book covers that an so very much more.

I could give you a brief over view of the book, but that's what the blurb is for, so I am just going to continue with my feelings and thoughts on the story itself.  J.R. Bryce does a wonderful job of developing the characters.  She allows us to see the strong protective side of Julie, but she also gives us that glimpse of her softer side which allows her to be all woman.  The way that she takes a complex character with many angles and gives her such a great balance is astounding.  Not only do we get that development in Julie, but J.R. Bryce gives each of her characters the different angles to which they fall into place through out the different situations of the story.

Now, the suspense of the book is off the charts.  I kept wondering what was going to take place next.  And, just when thought I had it figured out, she throw another curve ball at you and continues to keep you in the dark so to say.  I spent the entire book wondering what was going to take place next, and even in the end I was still going.. I want more.

Now.. I will leave you with one last thing, and it is not bad, but this story covers a lot, so make sure you allow yourself some time to thoroughly sit and read. The book is a bit long, but there is so much happening that you find yourself wanting to see what is going to happen next.  And of course the sexy alpha male who is totally dominating doesn't help.    Add into the mix all the other strong males and you are gonna find yourself drooling.  So with that being said.. here is my last little bit to leave you with.... "And don't think that I can't find creative ways to punish you if you push it.  You will not hurt yourself for me." ~Mark~

I love reading books by new authors nobody has really read yet.  You know why?  Because I get to feel like I'm in the know about something exclusive for just a little while.  A best kept secret if you will.  J.R. Bryce's Code of Honor is one of those gems and I will covet it for as long as I can.

The story follows Mark Williams and Julie Jameson as they embark on what starts as a professional relationship but branches out into so much more.  Mark needs a bodyguard for appearance sake so he doesn't want some scary guy lurking about.  His friend Anton decides on Julie.  Her credentials are impeccable and her attitude is just what Mark needs to keep him in line.  When they meet the attraction is instant but both try hard to fight it.  They need to keep their heads in the game to keep those that seek to hurt him off their backs.  But the attraction proves too much and even in a survival situation, Mark can't keep his thoughts quiet for long.

I adored this story. The first half admittedly took a while to read.  Now don't go thinking it was because it wasn't action packed or interesting.  It was, I was furiously flipping pages it just seemed like my page count wasn't changing.  But by half way through the story just starts to fly.  The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat and you're fully invested in the lives of the characters.  The banter between Julie, Mark, Anton, Sean, Josh and Cull is wonderful to break up the tension and keep you on the edge of your seat for what will happen to them next.

I love the chemistry between Mark and Julie.  The heat between them which is ever present at all times no matter the situation is delicious.  There is light BDSM which kicks the kink in the sex up a notch and will keep you panting for more. But that aspect of Mark only ratchets up the need they both feel to keep the other safe from harm and their enemies
Turning his face back up to the stars, he saw one wink at him. Giving in to impulse, he made a wish on it.  Star light, star bright, first star I see to night...

This is Book 2, I don't feel like anything is missed by not having read Code of Service first, that being said I am now on the hook and need to read Cull's story.  I also need Code of Courage now J.R.!  I can't wait to read Josh's story.

Highly Recommended!

Mark broke into her thoughts with a gentle tap on the top of her hand. She shook off her weird train of thought and turned to him with a question in her eyes. What can I do for you, sir? The fact that her mind formed the question like that didn’t escape her, but instead of freaking her out like it would have a month ago it just made her happy, as if she’d found her true calling.
He smiled cheekily. “Can we trade? I notice you don’t like the crispy parts…” He looked down at his hand and her eyes followed, noticing that he had pulled the less-cooked parts off of his bacon and was offering them to her.
“Yeah, sure, if you like it crunchy.” She grinned. When was the last time her brothers had even come close to noticing something that minute? Josh had sent her a teddy bear for her birthday last year, for fuck’s sake. She’d loved it because at least he’d remembered, but he obviously hadn’t realized she wasn’t twelve anymore when he sent it. Mark was so focused on her that he noticed which parts of her bacon she ate. She’d never turn her back on her brothers if they needed help, but they were way off on their assessment of her boyfriend. “That’d be great.”
“I don’t really care one way or the other,” Mark shrugged, dumping the contents of his hand on top of the bacon she had yet to eat and scooping up the overly-cooked bits she’d picked off. “You seem to, though, and you burned a lot of calories earlier. I can’t have you starving on me, now can I?”
“Are you trying to fatten me up? I don’t really need help in that department, you know.” She flashed him a self-mocking smile. “It’s hard enough to ignore half of my bacon, even if it’s cooked wrong. I’ll have to pay for this in cardio later.”
He leaned in close to her ear and lowered his voice so only she could catch the words. “I promise to help you out with that.”
Julie flushed and then jumped when Cull growled “Break it up, you two. I don’t want to see that shit.”
Rolling her eyes, she scooped up the bits of bacon Mark had just deposited and dropped them in her mouth. “Oh, so now talking is off limits? Double standard, much? Or maybe you don’t know how thin the walls are at your house?” She grabbed her plate and went to stick it in the sink, trying not to notice how her boyfriend was burying his silent laugh in his last bite of scrambled egg so that she could continue heckling without laughing herself. “Dude, I know you and Megan do more than talk.”
“She’s my wife.” Cull sullenly replied. “Not- for all intents and purposes- my little sister. I definitely do not want to see that shit, especially with him.”
“How do you think I feel, man?” Josh glared at Julie although he was obviously talking to Cull. “She actually is my sister.”
Sean claimed his place in the lets-gang-up-on-Julie fest. “Uh, yeah. Did you hear her this morning? I was in the hallway at the wrong time, let me tell you. That was not okay.” He turned his attention away from the other boys and onto her. “And your smart-ass comment was unnecessary, thank you very much.”
“Yeah, well, I guess that depends on perspective, huh Sean?” Julie flashed an evil grin toward her brother as she followed Mark into the living room area. “I get it. You boys are worried about your baby sister. What you don’t know is that I quit being a baby and put on my big-girl panties a long time ago. Did you know I had my first boyfriend at twelve? If you’re trying to protect my virtue, you’re a little late.”

JR Bryce (that's me) has been writing since I could read, with varying levels of success.
Some of those early stories were not the bestsellers I hoped for at age six,
but I've gotten better over time. Really. I promise.

I live in my office corner with a man-eating Chihuahua draped across my lap, my real live Evil Muse mind-controlling me via electronic communication, and writing like a crazy person while my all-too-precocious spawnlings plot each other’s murders and my husband runs away in a vain attempt to save his sanity. Fortunately, the beautiful Oregon Coast has lots of things to distract him so I can get the words on paper.
