More than a year after her ordeal, Emily McPhee finally feels safe...

Emily’s psychological scars are healing. Things are great between her and Orange Police
Department Officer Seth Connors, and her biggest problem is the X-rated Halloween
decorations her best friend Pete has placed all around her house.

If only it would stay that way...

Seth senses something isn’t right, but he doesn’t know where the danger is coming from...or
why. He’s sure Emily’s neighbor, Travis McKay, is hiding something, and the man pays way
too much attention to Emily.

To make things even more complicated, a new female officer appears to have her sights set
on Seth, and fellow officer Alexander Avery has some sort of connection to a mysterious
brothel employee. Seth has a feeling all these odd things are somehow connected—but he
knows he’s missing a huge piece of the puzzle.

Pull at a thread and everything unravels.

Emily’s mother shows up with a surprise and a dirty plan to force her to sell the family
home...and Seth’s father is proven to be the deceitful monster he always believed him to be.
Lasko’s tainted past and twisted family ties turn out to be more complex than they ever

Every lie has a consequence, and Seth and Emily need the truth.
In order to escape with their lives and their love intact, they must answer one critical

Who is the real target in this deadly game?

I just need to take a moment here to say that WOW. This is one series that will have you hanging on every. Single. Word. Every page brought a new thrilling action packed, suspension jammed novel that I insist on making this series one of the top ten series I have ever read. Yes, I just went there with the Darkness Series.

We pick up right where we left off with Darkness Follows. Which, was so nice because the transition was seamless in the sense that Seth, Emily, and Avery where right there. I thought things were just going to go swimmingly. That somehow, somewhere Jimmy Lasko sat, and continued to watch Emily. That somehow there was something I had missed. But, like I said, Darkness Falls picks right up where Darkness Follows left off. There was no guess work in the beginning of the novel. Typical Emily, and Seth fighting. Seth overworking. Then. it's like all hell breaks loose. Things start to be misplaced. The string on the attic stairs swings back and forth.

Something is off. Everyone can feel it.

When everything comes to prepared. Be prepared for the jaw-dropping moment that all the pieces come together, and that AH-HA moment hits. It will come, and it will come in like a wrecking ball - yes, again, I WENT THERE. Please. If you enjoy dark, twisted, crazy mind games, this is the series for you. Told from THREE points of view that is VERY easy to follow, J.L Drake did an outstanding job on writing a suspense novel that leaves the reader gasping as Emily, and Seth just slip out of their predator's grasp.

I cannot say enough about this series. By far one of my favorites in the dark suspense genre, for sure. This is definitely a trio that will be purchased in paperback form, and placed on the shelf amongst my other all time favorite books. Just WOW!

It is bittersweet that the Darkness series has come to an end. I loved following the tumultuous love journey that is Seth and Emily. They each love like no other, for no other, although at times is definitely rough to say the least. The pair have had their ups and downs, their ins and outs and as we see in Darkness Falls, their doubts with trust.  However, there is not a thing that Seth will not protect Emily from. He will lay his life on the line for this woman. Emily is it for him and he for her.

Jimmy Lasko is finally gone and out of their lives for good, but has the evilness that lurks? As we learned in the end of Darkness Follows, Jimmy has kin that will haunt Emily and Seth until the very end. It seems that no matter how good the "friendship" is or how close the detectives get to him, this Lasko will not give up. He will avenge Jimmy's death. There is no hole that is too deep.

We learn the reason that Lasko is out for Emily and Seth. We get to see why he is so bitter and so hateful toward them. We also learn that there is an extension to the family and it had me screaming NO, NO, NO, NOOOOO when I pieced everything together. I mean ... talk about edge of my seat, uber fast paced page turning. I read this final book in a day and a half because I truly didn't want to put it down. The series ended on a high note .. no cliff hangers and it gave me closure. I really, truly love J.L.'s writing style. As I have told her, she has a follower for life and I am almost positive that you will feel the same way. I will be gifting copies to a few friends ... it is THAT good. Reward yourself ... give yourself a giant gift and purchase this series. Tremendous job J.L.!!!

I wove through the crosses and spider webs, past the coffins and Dracula, and hit my  porch, thinking this would be the last year I gave Pete free rein of my house when I wasn’t  home. That man was obsessed with decorating, no matter what holiday. He convinced me to let him do Halloween with no limits, since last year we didn’t even celebrate due to the fact we had just closed the case on Lasko. It was those damn eyes of his; they got me every time.
I stuck my key in the lock and smiled when I saw he’d set up two pumpkin men on my porch swing. Then I saw it. “Oh my God, Pete!” I gasped, removing one of their hands off  the other’s private parts. I did a quick scan and saw all of the decorations were involved in some kind of rude act. “I’m going to kill him!” I hurried over to the orgy of witches, removed Dracula’s blow-up doll, and snatched the Grim Reaper from the moaning ghost. I quickly texted Pete, but rolled my eyes when I saw he’d once again changed his name in my phone.
Emily: You’re so dead!
Sensuous Pete: What? My theme was a haunted brothel.
Emily: Travis has nephews!
Sensuous Pete: Who do you think helped?
Poor Travis. I glanced at his house, seeing he was home. Maybe I should go speak to him.
Sensuous Pete: You have to admit, Michael Myers is funny!
I quickly scanned my property, trees, balcony, and roof, then I saw him over in the shadows being bent over and smacked on the ass with a paddle by a drawn-on blow-up doll. Wow, he left nothing to the imagination with his drawings. I jammed the doll into the trash can, not letting on that I could hear her deflating. I’d laugh at the irony of it, but I was too damn embarrassed.
Emily: I hate you.
Sensuous Pete: I love you too, love.
