Spencer Bradley ruins everything he touches. Addicted to gambling, he’s lied, cheated, and stolen to get what he wants. Now, in order to protect those he cares for, he’s keeping his distance. Rehab’s taught him a lot, but when his time runs out and he finds himself with nowhere to turn, he seeks help from the one person he’s capable of destroying.

Olivia Carter fell in love the day she met Spencer Bradley. Despite him being responsible for the downfall of his best friend’s career and landing himself in rehab, she can’t bring herself to stay away—even if it means risking her own recovery.

*Note* While this book is a part of the Wayward Fighters series, unDefeated can be read as a standalone.

What happens when you have two people who have dependencies on things to help them escape from the realities of life?  Better yet when they are dependent on things to deal with life's issues.  This is how we are introduced to Spencer and Olivia.  The thing is can the two of them help each other to become better, or will they do just the opposite and cause each other more harm to themselves than good?

Spencer has finally reached rock bottom and has sought out the help of a treatment center to overcome his addiction to gambling.  Knowing that he is the very reason his best friend has basically given up the one true goal of success in his life for him has caused him to take a check into reality.  Not only has he caused pain to his one true friend, but he has also hurt the one person who truly loved and saw him for him.  Olivia has accepted her demons for lack of a better way to put it, she has a doctor that she sees, but when the pain and hurt of the issues between her and Spencer become overwhelming she reverts back to her old coping mechanisms.  Cutting is her way of releasing all the pain and tension, but she knows that she can not get back into old habits so she gets an appointment with her doctor to discuss what is troubling her.  In the process of doing this Spencer is working to follow through with his rehab and agrees to attend the counseling sessions with her.

I enjoyed this book for many reasons.  I think the largest reason was that with true love and pure friendship you can overcome anything.  This was my one take away from this book.  The fact that even though her tried repeatedly to push Olivia away, she still was determined to stay by his side.  And even after all of the pain that he caused his best friend Jamie, he refused to walk away and cower down, he stood and vowed to right his wrongs.  That to me was what makes this book fit its title.  That Spencer refused to allow his addiction to defeat him.  My only regret is that I did not read books one and two before hand to see how these characters each evolved into who and what they are in this book.  Over all it is a really well written story that will give you the love and ups and downs that make the stories worth reading time and time again.
