The Calm After the Storm, the newest contemporary romance from Mya O’Malley, tells the story of Emma Riley, a single woman affected by the tragedy and destruction of Hurricane Sandy, and Jake Mack, a utility foreman who volunteers to assist with the cleanup of the devastation caused by the storm. Both have sworn off love, but neither counted on falling in love again so quickly. Will their love survive the devastation of the storm – and their pasts?

The Calm After the Storm was a very well written, new age romance that touched on a rather real life situation that could happen to anyone, anywhere in the country during this crazy era of weather that we seem to have lately! Mya did a wonderful job overall on bringing this book to life, and it was a quick, easy read that was a pleasure to read.

The North East has suffered from a brutal storm that has wiped out most of the power grid for the highly populated state. With power out, trees littering the roads, and power lines dangerously hanging throughout the rural city, Emma ventures out to find herself some coffee, and something warm to eat. After all, a Keurig operates off of electricity, and with her power out, there is no possible way her coffee will magically appear before her! A chance meeting with the Georgian man brings Emma to a new chapter in her life, and one that she isn't sure she wants to flirt with or not.

Jake comes from Georgia, an electrician attempting to get his own life in order, Attempting to get his daughter in full custody, and just get her life back on track, has seemed to be a battle that Jake is no stranger to; he just wishes it would come quicker rather than slower. When he meets Emma there is no question that he wants to get to know the work-oriented woman; she seems down to earth, and he knows that may be just what him, and his daughter need to fulfill their lives once they are together after the custody battle.

But is happily ever even in reach for our accidental couple? Can they overcome their own fears, set aside distance, and keep a chance love intact?

Mya O'Malley brought a very realistic story to life between the pages of The Calm After the Storm. I do love the title of the book, as it goes well with the fact that things tend to calm slightly after a storm passes. The chemistry between Emma, and Jake was undeniable throughout this novel, and it was refreshing to see something such as a winter storm to bring a couple together. There were a few instances that I felt the story was just too much instant love, and that's the reason for the 4 star review. Overall a good read with minimal editorial problems in the copy I received.
