Raised in the system, Liz Murphy longed for the day that she would have a family of her own to care for, to love.

Happiness is just within her reach when tragedy strikes, ripping everything away, leaving Liz so hopeless and desperate that she attempts the unthinkable….

Braxton Wright cares only for three things: his bars, making money, and his mother. He doesn’t do relationships, stays far away from girls that need anything other than one night. Meeting Liz leaves him conflicted; wanting to know her, to keep her, but scared she will crack the foundation he’s sacrificed so much to build.

As Liz learns to live again, Braxton’s life shatters, leaving him in a million pieces.

Could love be enough to bind two broken people, or will the world succeed in tearing them apart…

Just when Liz Murphy thinks her life is exactly where it needs to be, reality comes crashing into the picture with no regard for her plans that she had secured for her future. Tragedy is no stranger to Liz Murphy, but for once in her life she would just be happy with some consistency that will keep her grounded to the one place she wants to be; happy. Jumping from house to house in her younger years through the foster care system, Liz knew that she didn't have the opportunity to really be with the people that she knew would love, and care for her.

Left after the tragedy that leaves her in a shell of herself for close to two years, Liz turns to her best friend, Sophie. Sophie is a fun outgoing person who seems to know when, where, what to say, and how to act when it comes to picking up men. What she doesn't know is how to pull her best friend out of a two year long rut that has her moping for someone that will never walk back into her life. When Liz's eyes land on Braxton Wright that first night, something within Liz clicks, and she is ready to face the world head on, and get ready for the life that she knew had been set aside for her.

Braxton Wright doesn't know what to think of Liz when she walks into his world. He doesn't come off as a caring person. At all. He is focused on himself, his bars, his women, and what the future holds for himself. Which isn't much if he keeps up his attitude of everything is about him. That is until he meets Liz. Liz who needs repairing, and some fixing up in terms of relationships and herself go. Liz who is sweet, caring, and still broken from the tragedy that ripped her life apart. Liz, who for once, may be able to fix someone other than herself.

This book is one hell of a roller coaster ride. I found myself laughing, crying, wanting to throw my Kindle, to understanding all within chapters of each other. It was simply amazing the well written story that ensued the heartbroken Liz, and the all mighty Braxton who didn't need anybody in his life other than himself, and his mother. But why type of story would it be without the main characters getting what they wanted in the end? The emotional heartache in Starting From Broken is just breathtaking.

F.T Zele did a wonderful job starting both Liz, and Braxton from a past that doesn't seem pliable to come back from. From Liz being in foster care her entire life, to the tragedy that ultimately breaks her down to a shell of herself, to Braxton not wanting a relationship because it could destroy his relationship with his mother - it is exhilarating. It is demanding, it is emotional. So, grab some tissues, grab a very comfortable seat, and get lost in Liz, and Braxton's story.
