Still reeling from the death of her father, Alexandria hopes to find both independence and reprieve from her grief by heading off to college. However, life throws her a serious curveball when she discovers that her roommate isn’t quite the person she had imagined.

Smoking, tattoos, and street racing for fast cash are Elijah’s only interests. A harsh life has made him apathetic and indifferent, until Alexandria enters his life. When their paths cross, turmoil abounds.

An inevitable encounter, an undeniable attraction, and an unexpected chance at love-will it be enough?

From Alexandria’s point of view

Never taking his eyes off me, he rested his hand on my shoulder, and then gingerly slid down my arm, giving me pleasurable tingles…EVERYWHERE. Afraid to move the tiniest of my muscles, I felt locked in place. I was enjoying him far too much. I didn’t want it to end. When he finally reached my hand, he pulled it up to his mouth and made the most pleasurable groan I’ve ever heard.
Looking exhausted and dazed, he shifted his eyes to the cookie in my hand, and mumbled slowly, “I think I’ll have that cookie now.”
Nothing registered until I saw his lips part, and my fingers disappeared into his mouth. Oh. My. GOD! My pulse skyrocketed, and I whimpered from the warmth of his tongue and the sensation that shot up my arm. My fingers were very wet sliding out of his mouth. I even felt the feather-light graze of his teeth; and I could swear every single muscle in my body became limp.
His jaw worked quickly, chewing. It was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen. He made eating a cookie SO hot. After he swallowed, he turned the other way, picked up my cup of milk, and chugged down whatever was left.
Looking like he couldn’t believe he just drank milk, he placed the cup down. “Good night, Alex. Don’t ever go racing without me,” he ordered, and then he left.
What just happened? Milk and cookies will never be the same for me…EVER.

"You see her across the room, then everyone else disappears...her smile crawls into your skin, touching your heart, you soul... you can do nothing, but think of her..all you want to do is hold her in your arms. You want to breather her in...touch her...taste her...make love to her until you can feel her in your blood..."

We are first introduced to Alex when she is suffering a loss so devastating that it leaves her feeling lost and alone.  Alex is determined to start over and leave the loss of her father behind her and head off to college.  She is looking forward to meeting some new friends and having a new roommate who is supposed to be named Ellie.  When she arrives at the apartment she is supposed to be sharing she is surprised to find a party in full swing.  She is a bit shocked but doesn't let this affect her, besides she did show up a bit early.  What she does get is an introduction to Lexy, Seth, and Dean.

When Elijah first sees Alex he is speechless.  Then top off the fact that she thinks he is supposed to be a girl kind of throws him off guard.  His friends Seth and Lexy find this to be absolutely hilarious, and he wonders how his previous roommate Jimmy, who happens to be Alex's cousin, led her to believe he was a girl while leading him to believe she is a guy.  Even after they come to terms with each other he is still unsure of how to be around Alex, and yet still he is drawn to her in a way he has never been.  He doesn't know how to resist her all the while knowing it is the best for her, but the pull doesn't let up and he finds himself getting closer and closer and more attached to her every day.

Alex finds herself completely taken by Elijah, but he is everything that she swore she would never get involved with.  He smokes, he has tattoos, and he drag races... all of which Alex is not comfortable with, yet she is still pulled emotionally towards him.  When the heart decides that it wants something there is nothing that you can do to stop it.  Alex fights falling for Elijah in many ways even using the fact that she is in a relationship, but still she finds herself hating when he is away as does she.  Their friends see the pull between them, but stand back allowing them to discover it on their own.  I love how even though they are both lost souls trying to find their ways, they are able to give each other strength when they need it the most.  I was also surprised at how different we find out Elijah is from how he appears throughout the book.  There are some really nice twists that will bring tears to your eyes.  The love between these two and the support and care that they receive from their direct friends is amazing.  I hope that we will get more from this group.  I loved following them and would like to see what will happen with Lexy and Seth, and even Emma.  I also like how the relationship with Alex and her mom becomes more defined with in the book.  Overall I found it to be an enjoyable read and would recommend it to others who enjoy reading young/new adult stories.

I was sucked in from the first page. I couldn’t put this book down! When I absolutely HAD to put it down, I brought my iPad with me wherever I went just in case I could sneak in a minute to read more.

Alex lost her father to lung cancer just before she went off to college. Now I do have to say that this was the hard part to read for me because of the loss of my own father just recently. I cried like a baby and it wasn’t a sniffle either it was a full on ugly cry. The prologue was sad but it gives us an understanding of the struggle Alex is dealing with. A loss of someone that is very dear to you is not something you just get over. My heart absolutely broke along with Alex’s.

Alex needed a roommate so her cousin Jimmy helped her out. He had graduated the year before so she took over his room. He told her that her roommate’s name is Ellie so she felt a little better knowing it was a girl. Upon arriving to the new place she found out that Ellie was NOT a girl after all but this beautiful man instead. Ellie is his nickname, that sneaky cousin!! Alex didn’t know what to do at first but decided she would give it a whirl, nothing wrong with living with a guy right?

Elijah was fooled by the infamous Jimmy as well. He thought that Alex was another guy, like I said before, sneaky!  Elijah and Alex had an instant connection but there were rules he needed to live by while in college. He couldn’t date his friend’s sisters or cousins so Alex was off limits. Elijah tried to busy himself for the most part to stay away from Alex as much as possible. If he didn’t he knew he would get into trouble.

Can Alex and Elijah keep their attraction to each other at bay? I absolutely loved everything about this book. The characters had such a tight bond. Definitely something every person looks for in a friend. The characters were so down to earth. Elijah is the type of man that would do anything for anybody. He is full of heart and did I mention, HOT? Alex is more of a sweetheart any man would fall for.

The group of friends Alex and Elijah hang around with are a dream come true as well. They took in Alex with open arms and treat her like family. Something Alex truly needs. Now I’m not saying that Elijah is problem free because he has his own set of issues. Don’t we all though?

I highly recommend this book. Like I said before, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely love Mary’s style of writing. It will suck you in and you won’t want to come up for air. Mary sure does know how to grab your attention with a quickness and totally captivates you the entire time.
