WOW!  I have got to say, I am very glad I read this story.  When the story started, it was a little slow and I realized that this was a YA book, which had me worried I wouldn't be that into it.  I haven't read any YA in a while.  Let me tell you, its sort of refreshing to go back to the basics and read a story without all the sex thrown in.

The story takes place in three parts.  It's told from the perspectives of Skylar, a gothic, rough around the edges, teenage girl who loathes people with money, and Alexandra, a nerdy but adorable teenage girl who works at a library in her spare time and occasionally plays soccer.  Skylar for the most part flies under the radar at school and goes unnoticed even with her dark lipstick and eyeliner and powder white face.  Alexandra on the other hand tripped one time at school and landed herself as the laughing stock of the wrong kind of boys at school who constantly grope her and make cat calls at her around school to pick on her.  Both girls land themselves in similar boy trouble but don't know one another and probably never would have met until fate sees fit to intercede.

Both males in the story were suitably swoon worthy and brooding. They both show their jerk sides every now and again, Tristan more so than Kane but Tristan is also supposed to be one of the bad boys and oh does he show it.  Both relationships between the lead male/female were a little exasperating at times, but like I said, it was nice to not have the sex in the story for a change.  To go back to my high school years while I was reading their stories and remember the good ol' days of flirting and playing cat and mouse with that one boy you liked but were too stubborn to admit to.

I assume since Lila Rose is Australian, that the story takes place there.  I kept getting confused by Skylar calling her mother, Momma and using words like mate, buggered, etc ... and then Alexandra calling Skylar's mother, Mum and saying Maths instead of Math.  I guess it was off putting for this American at times but overall this story was wholly enjoyable.  It was both real and relatable with a lot of emotion thrown in.  I am very glad that this one fell in my lap and that I was able to read it this week.  I look forward to more of what Lila Rose has to offer in the future!

“Kane, Kane wait. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that.” I grabbed his arm to stop him. He turned, grabbed my shoulders and kissed me. It was only a short kiss, but God-all-mighty I felt it right down to my toes. Imagine if he had of used tongue. “And I shouldn't have done that,” He said and continued to walk off.
Tristan laughed pulling me close again into his embrace. “You cannot tell me that was your first kiss.” That made me laugh and blush. “Well no, but you’re the second.” “Hmm, I think I like that.” He grinned a big toothy grin which made my insides curl.
