Blog Tour + Giveaway: Finding Willow by Dawn Robertson

Title: Finding Willow

Author: Dawn Robertson

Genre: Erotic Romance

Release Date: November 25, 2013

Sex is all I have ever known. It started at an early age, and never stopped. Men, women, threesomes, foursomes, orgies. Fuck it, whatever goes. Twenty eight years old and nothing to show for my life but a fat bank account, and an impressive porn catalogue; all featuring yours truly; Starburst Bloom. I'm at a crossroads, and I have a choice to make. I choose salvation. I choose life. I choose myself, for the first time ever. I will find her. I will find the life I was forced to give up. I just pray that he stays out of my way.

So let's start by first saying that the first chapter of Finding Willow was pretty tough to read.  It involved very strong themes of rape (no it's not explicit but it definitely was cringe worthy and just made me generally feel dirty).  That being said, as far as an authors ability to make you feel what a character goes through, Dawn Robertson does an amazing job!  I felt Star's pain, her emptiness, her loneliness and her desperation.

Starburst Bloom is the daughter of swinger hippies who were nomadic when Star was a child and ended up living the longest part of their lives in Woodstock, NY.  They lived mostly out of vans and old school buses hollowed out and decorated on the inside to resemble a residence.  At eight years old her innocence is stripped from her by her best friends 21 year old brother (yes that was the part I was discussing above and trust me it makes you feel sick to your stomach).  Blue (the brother) continues to pursue Star into her teen years and eventually Star realizes that sex is something she very much enjoys. That which should repulse her, brings her pleasure and so as she grows up, she finds herself pursuing the adult film industry.  Now at 28 years old she's wealthy and one of the most sought after porn actresses in the world.  But Star isn't happy.  She's been miserable for almost eleven years.  Why? Well, on Christmas Day, eleven years ago, she gave birth to a baby girl and was forced to let her go by her parents who insisted the baby be raised in a commune in upstate NY.  They simply wouldn't drop their wild lifestyle to raise her baby.

Strung out on drugs and exotic sex with whomever she can have it with (even her best friend Seven James), Star has to make a choice on what kind of person she wants to be ... should she continue the ruthless lifestyle she's been living or clean up her act, head back to where her miserable existence began and try to find the only person who can make her life complete, her daughter Willow?

This was a really harrowing story for the most part.  You feel really bad for the poor girl.  The people in her life, minus her best friend Seven, have mostly crapped on her over the years.  Blue always made her feel worthless, like she deserved the emotional and physical abuse he has dealt to her for most of her young life.  But this is also a touching story in the sense that a young woman finally realizes what is important in her life, what her priorities should be.  There is even a romance thrown in along the way, even though it's the last thing she expects or even wants to pursue.  This was definitely a touching story of self discovery and I very much enjoyed the ride that Star is on to find Willow.  The sexual encounters (minus what happens with Blue of course) were steamy and erotic, definitely arousing. This was also my first read involving a F/F encounter which was very erotic to say the least.   Overall I like what Dawn Robertson accomplished with this story and Kink the Halls, the follow-up Novella was extremely spicy as well.  My review for Kink the Halls and Hers (Book 1 - about her best friend Seven) is coming up shortly! Enjoy!
