SYNOPSIS:

For Jack Lewis love comes from unexpected places…so does tragedy. When David arrived on Vancouver Island, he was just another tourist looking to charter a boat. A few hours on the water together proves he is more than that. As a world traveler, David is a man of mystery who has been everywhere and seen everything.

Attraction draws them together but an attempt at a meaningless fling fails one touch at a time when Jack feels more than he thought he would. The love affair sparks fear in David and jealousy in Emerson, the man who frequents Jack’s bed in a relationship that is all sex and no soul.

At odds with the men in his life Jack tries to talk David into staying and Emerson into going. The attempt sends things spinning out of control and he struggles with the consequences that could leave him empty handed.

REVIEW:

Well you all know I love a good M/M romance.  Changing Tide was no exception to the rule when it comes to this love. Jack is a fishing/whale watching tour boat Captain who takes on a client, a Photojournalist who is in town to take photos of Orca's for his current assignment.  David is from nowhere essentially.  He floats around the world from assignment to assignment, doing everything in his power to not stay in one place.  Ever since his short lived period living in Indiana and doing the domestic thing, he hasn't had any interest in staying in one place.  Jack has had a series of lovers over the years, the last of which is Emerson, a young man with illusions of grandure for his life but absolutely no drive to get himself there.  He's perfectly content latching himself to any wealthy man that will have him and then plays the victim in his tragically made up fantastical stories every time they get tired of him and leave.

Jack has been looking for a way to get away from Emerson for a long time and finally puts his foot down and that goes over about as well as a lead balloon.  Emerson throws epic fits every time Jack tries to pull away from him.  He even goes so far as to lie to David about how serious their relationship is when he sees David and Jack out on the town having a friendly dinner.  Jack finds himself falling head first into easy conversation with David and genuinely enjoys his company.  The two men obviously decide to take their attraction to the next level but David doesn't want any attachments.  He just wants disconnected sex, no love making, he's not built to handle those types of emotions after what happened in Indiana 18 months ago.  Jack continually tries to pull David's walls down but knows that with a man like David, no amount of trying will be enough, he knows he will eventually leave and comes to the realization that when he does he will be completely torn apart emotionally.

The story is definitely a roller coaster on your emotions especially for how short the book is. I'm keeping everything brief because the book is so short and if I said much more I'd just spoil the whole story.  The only reason I gave the book a four and not a five was that I wanted more heat between Jack and David and the ending seemed very abrupt.  I tried flipping the page and was like "What? That's it?" This makes for a very unhappy girl but upon reflecting on the story for a couple of days, I have come to the conclusion that I did genuinely enjoy it and I hope to see many more stories from DP Denman in the future.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

DP Denman is an M/M (gay) contemporary romance author from the soggy splendor of the Pacific Northwest. She wrote and self-published her first novel at the age of eight and the single copy received rave reviews from a collection of biased friends and family members. From there she branched out to writing variety show skits for her siblings performed to captive audiences of visiting grandparents. Bits and pieces of stories followed in the form of school assignments and ramblings of an active imagination. Those eventually led to short stories, novels and several web series.

DP is an eclectic reader, obsessed writer, and determined LGBT rights activist. She lives with her fur babies and a pair of hyper-caffeinated muses.
