After a tragic accident, Araya Noelle is left with a constant reminder that nothing is forever.

She is forced to give up her chance to be the youngest dancer accepted into Julliard & taking over their high society school by a graceful storm of determination is no longer an option. Instead of dwelling over her loss, she accepts the new future she’s been dealt. In a world as black as hers, there's no room for bitterness, no time for regret. Sheltered from the outside world, Araya has become suffocated by a life she has no control over. Until Ryland Dare comes crashing into her life.

You don’t know true darkness until you've felt light…

Like a firecracker, showering her with colorful sparks of freedom, Ryland quickly sweeps Araya away from her grey existence. For the first time since the accident, living in darkness is no longer something Araya wants to do willingly. Unleashed by the shadows of her reminder, being with Ryland, Araya touches light. Together they will learn what it’s like to feel alive for the first time.

At the edge of darkness, a ray of light, will dare them both to HOPE.

DARE them to LOVE
DARE them to LIVE

What a wonderful debut novel from Melissa Andrea.  Araya Noelle was a ballet dancer until the world flipped on its axis and left her crippled not only physically but also emotionally with the death of her mother.  Instead of dying along side her mother in a car accident, fate has seen fit to give Araya another chance at life.  But instead of her being able to live her life, she's signed over to the care of her horrid Uncle and Aunt who do nothing to try to help her cope with her disability. They are deplorable individuals without a redeeming quality to be seen and Ms. Andrea does a phenomenal job of setting your blood to boil anytime these two are on the page. They make Araya a slave to them, pointing out at every turn that she is a hinderance not only physically but financially on their lives.

In walks Ryland Dare, a handsome and wealthy playboy by his own admission.  He never lets a girl believe they can have more than what he offers in the purely physical nature of their relationship.  He has stuck by this strict set of rules because of the monsters that are his parents and the fact that he doesn't want to taint anyone else with the pain he would surely bring them if he was to fall in love. His parents are real pieces of work.  On the inside they are anything but the All American happy family that society would believe them to be. His father is ruthless in business and wouldn't hesitate to kill you to get ahead and his wife is just a pushover who drinks herself into oblivion and never stands up for herself. Just thinking about them still makes me scowl and how deplorably they treat their children and have always ruled their lives.

Then Ryland meets Araya one day in the park.  He senses she is different from other girls but not in a bad way and there is just something pure and innocent about her that drives Ryland crazy (in a very delicious way). Their story is beautiful, heart warming, dark at times and uplifting throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed The Edge of Darkness.  Don't get me started on the ending ... it left me completely bereft but in a good way!  I can't say more than that without giving the story and the ending away but what I can say is that for a debut novel, this story was beautifully written and I am very much looking forward to reading what Melissa Andrea has in store for our characters when the story continues.

I find it hard to sum up my life in a paragraph, but I’ll try.

I am the author of Flutter, The Discover Series! Reading has always been a passion for me, and writing as instinctive as breathing.

Every inhale is an idea; every exhale a creation. The only thing I do better than writing you ask? Making beautiful girls. My daughter’s will always be my greatest accomplishment.

I was born in Denver, Colorado–but I will always think of sunny Arizona as my home. I don’t have a big family, but I’m close with my sister, brother

& my mom. My mom is my hero, my inspiration, and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing person to be raised by.

4 things you should know about me: I’m very girly, but I can get down and dirty with the best of them. I adore the color pink and things that sparkle

(including vampires), I am a firm believer that chocolate cures ALL and I like even numbers (hence 4 things about me, not 5) Okay, maybe I cheated a little with my list, shhhh.
